This is where our friend Sister Rosa feeds hundreds of children every day. Sister Rosa has three other dining halls in the highlands around Cusco. Desana is happy to be able to help Sister Rosa with this mission.  We stopped by at lunch time today...... look at all of the happy children.  This is the same place we will be holding our Dental Mission.

Hogar Transitorio de Niños is a project for Desana. This project provides funding to feed 400 - 600 people every day. Currently the funding is provided by money Sister Rosa can raise from local churches, some tourist donations and occasionally a church from other parts of the world will fund part of it for a while. Sister Rosa is one of two Sisters that work at this Orphanage and this is her person mission. The orphanage does have other volunteers. Sister Rosa had the idea to help the people who could not afford to feed themselves by building Dining Halls in the very remote highlands (approximately 13,000 feet above sea level) around Cusco. They have one dining hall in the Orphanage in Cusco and the other three are in the highlands. Sister Rosa worked out a way to have the local village build the the facility. She keeps the local families involved by asking them to grow the potatoes (that is all that will grow at this altitude) and the local families provide the 'cooks'. Sister Rosa brings other fresh vegetables, meat, and canned products two or three times per week. The round trip takes her most of the day in her 4x4 Toyota. The annual cost of the project would be $4,200. The total project would cost $16,800.

I am writing this at 8:30pm..... we got up this morning at 4am and left the hotel at 5am. Sister Rosa showed up right on time...... in her Toyota 4x4 crew cab truck.....she started driving up a road that was still under construction.... the road was just wide enough for one vehicle at a time..... the more we drove, the closer we got to the clouds...... then we went through the clouds. I thought you only did that in an airplane. We were above 12,000 feet! Yes, it was 'frio' (cold).
