When Desana volunteers first visited Zaimka in June 08, they knew immediately that an opportunity existed to initiate a relationship with these children. What better way than to send a birthday present to each child every year? This Project has been highly successful in bringing smiles, happiness and a sense of pride to these children as they now anxiously await their birthdays and "the gift" coming from America.
Desana wishes to extend gratitude and recognition to the unselfish volunteers who support this Project with their donations and efforts: | | Last Updated on Thursday, 01 April 2010 21:04 | | Read more...

The kids were thrilled! They were so excited all day they could not compose themselves (this is what their Moms said). ? We had a concert, a New Year's talent show for the kids, danced, played. But instead of having tea all together, we decided that kids would have it in each individual home later on after we left. So, each home received a platter and a huge bag of assorted candy and cookies (pictures will follow next week) and every child got a box of assorted candy (thanks to the customs people that also provided transportation), a pack of gum (sent by Nancy), a toy or a game, and 7 pieces of tangerines, a huge apple and a large pear. They loved it all. | | Last Updated on Sunday, 10 January 2010 22:20 | | Read more... | | Written by Elena Antropyanskaya | | Thursday, 29 October 2009 21:41 | The children of Zaimka Orphanage were treated to a party by Desana volunteers on August 27th.? This orphanage is one that tries to keep family units together.? Brothers and sisters are allowed to stay together.? When you first visit this orphanage, you are struck by the happy children but you quickly realize that they do not have parents..... or do not have parents who visit them.? Without the volunteers, many of these children would not have any contact with the outside world.? The 'House Mothers' here are very nice and caring.? The old fashioned BBQ Party was put on by Elena, Eugene (Zhenya), Christine, Gary and their daughter Jill. | | Last Updated on Saturday, 02 January 2010 00:35 | | Read more...
