Thanks to Kathy, we were able to have a Back-to-school party with lots of treats. Next week kids will also be going to the movies. Harvest Community Church out of Martindale, TX, paid for school supplies for every child in the shelter. | | Last Updated on Wednesday, 01 September 2010 13:27 | | View Photos

Every child received a pair of brand new tennis shoes. They were thrilled. We would like to thank the members of Sarah's congregation for making it possible.

Shelter Christmas Party? Christmas Party at the ?Kind Heart? Shelter for Abandoned and Neglected Children was a joint effort of many loving hearts.? My students?at school had participated in the charity event for two weeks ? we collected hygiene supplies and were able to collect enough shampoos, hair conditioners, shower gels, soaps, toothpastes and toothbrushes to make a nice present for all of the 35 shelter children. In one of the pictures you can see my 6th grade students in my classroom showing the gifts that we had assembled. ? The money our friends from Martindale Baptist Church sent enabled us to buy candy to make 35 boxed candy gifts ? a traditional Russian New Year present for a child. ? On Tuesday, December 29, we took a taxi to the shelter. Two of my 8th-grade students and last year graduate Christina volunteered to come along and deliver the presents. Tuesday was a party day for all the younger shelter children. This year they have three groups of kids that meet separately ? teenage boys, teenage girls and elementary school kids/pre-schoolers. Sometimes older girls come in to help with the little ones. | | Last Updated on Sunday, 10 January 2010 22:21 | | Read more... | | Written by Elena Antropyanskaya | | Thursday, 29 October 2009 21:59 | History: ?Imagine a fairly large industrial Russian town in the middle of winter. The temperature easily drops to -30?C and people put on layers upon layers of clothing and have to force themselves to leave their apartments to go to work. The only salvation for us then is a thought of a cup of steaming hot tea that is a must for every Russian about 10 times a day. It was in such weather that a group of visitors from Switzerland saw a group of poorly dressed children, with cigarettes, standing around a bonfire in the suburbs of the town, desperately trying to get warm. The Swiss guests asked their guide and translator about the children, but the lady just lowered her eyes and asked the bus driver to go on without stopping. But the picture stuck in the minds of the visitors. One of them decided to look into the situation to see what could be done. | | Last Updated on Friday, 01 January 2010 22:21 | | Read more...
