Desana Russian Project Director Elena Antropyanskaya Hibbler sends this report:
"Well, the day for our annual Desana-Zaimka picnic has arrived. We were hoping for some good weather, but... we had to be thankful for what we got. All wet but happy we grilled hot dogs, drank Pepsi and just loved on each other. These children are absolutely amazing. The little ones could not come out to the barbecue site because of the wet and cold, so the older ones fried and grilled for the little ones FIRST and only then wanted to eat their own treats. Watermelons, plums, grapes, cookies as well as tomatoes and cukes are to be enjoyed later. They promised they would not try to eat it all at once not to get sick. THANK YOU, DESANA and all the wonderful people that are part of the effort."
THIS IS A REPRINT OF AN ARTICLE POSTED SEVERAL YEARS AGO
This small orphanage, nestled in the Ural Mountains, is an amazing home for approximately 60 orphans (Social and True Orphans) ranging from age 5 to 17. When Desana volunteers first visited Zaimka in June 08, they knew immediately that an opportunity existed to initiate a relationship with these children. What better way than to send a birthday present to each child every year? This Project has been highly successful in bringing smiles, happiness and a sense of pride to these children as they now anxiously await their birthdays and "the gift" coming from America.
Desana wishes to extend gratitude and recognition to the unselfish volunteers who support this Project with their donations and efforts:
Rosann Hurst - Brentwood, TN
Nancy McKee - Lexington, TX
Wendy Nogler - Lynchburg, TN
Carol LeBlanc - Putnam, CT
Mary Jo Pitts - Shelbyville, TN
You have accomplished more with your kind hearts than you can imagine! A million hugs from the children of Zaimka.
The Children's Village is an orphanage that keeps the family unit together - brothers and sisters can stay together instead of being split as is the case in most other orphanages. Children live in homes with house mothers who truly care for these children. Portions of this facility does not have running water. The children are clean and well fed. Desana volunteers visit this facility on a regular basis to treat the children to fruit, sweets, and an old fashioned BBQ in the summer and a Christmas Party. Each child at this facility receives a personal birthday gift from Desana. If you would like to help with this project, contact us. You can sponsor a child for $25. This money will purchase a birthday gift and also cover the shipping. We ship gifts on a regular basis. Sponsor as many as you can. There are 160 opportunities.
